How to use NeuroDesk
One step at a time, like the app itself. Read only the bit you need right now.
If you read one thing, read this
Blank page? Reload the page.
Nothing is lost: what you wrote is already saved.
The app is in Italian. Where a button matters, you get the Italian words with the English meaning next to them.
Getting in
Three things, the first time only.
-
Open the app
Go to app.neurodesk.it, on your phone or computer.
-
Paste your code
The code looks like this:
neuro-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. Copy it whole, hyphens included. Then tap Entra (Enter).
-
Tick the box
A page called «Prima di iniziare» (before you start) explains what happens to what you write.
Then tap Continua (Continue). First time only.
You're in.
Asking for a step
-
Pick the area
Blocco stuck · Studio studying · Burocrazia paperwork · Lavoro work · Autonomie money, home, routines. Unsure? Leave Blocco.
-
Write what you can't do right now
A few words are enough. No need to be precise. English is fine — you'll be answered in the language you write in.
-
Tap the button
Aiutami a fare il prossimo passo (help me take the next step). Then wait a few seconds: three dots move.
You get one step. Small, doable now.
Done it? Say so and tap Continua. The next step takes into account how it went.
Whenever you want
None of this is required. It's there if you need it.
- 🔊 Ascolta la risposta (listen) — reads the reply aloud.
- ↓ Scarica la conversazione (download) — saves it as a file on your device.
- Nuova conversazione (new conversation) — start fresh.
- Cancella la mia cronologia (delete my history) — wipes everything. No undo.
- Revoca il consenso (withdraw consent) — stop whenever. You can give it again later.
The last two live under ▸ Opzioni avanzate (advanced options).
If something breaks
Open only the line that applies to you.
I get a blank page
Reload the page. On a phone: pull down. On a computer: F5.
Everything comes back where it was. It's our defect and we're on it: if it happens, tell us which button you tapped.
Reloading isn't enough — I still see the old version
This happens after an update: your browser keeps showing you the copy it had stored.
On a computer: force the reload — Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows and Linux, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac.
On iPhone and iPad: Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data. Quicker still: open the app in a private tab.
On Android: Chrome → ⋮ → Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data, ticking only "cached images and files".
How you know that was it: after clearing, you see the change we told you about. If nothing changes, it was something else — write to us.
The reply never arrives
Give it twenty seconds — it's slower when busy.
If nothing happens, reload and send the same message again. No duplicates are created.
My code isn't accepted
« Codice o password non validi. »Copy the code again in full, every hyphen, no spaces.
Watch your phone's autocorrect: it sometimes changes letters or capitalises the first one.
It says it can't reach you
« Non riesco a collegarmi. / Non riesco a raggiungere il Companion. »Check your connection and try again in a minute.
If it lasts longer, write to us.
It says there are too many requests
« Troppi tentativi ravvicinati. / Troppe richieste. »Wait two minutes and try again.
You did nothing wrong: it's a limit we keep so AI costs don't run away.
It asks me to sign in again
« Sessione non valida o scaduta. »Sign in again with your code.
Your conversations are waiting where they were.
It asks for consent again
« Serve il consenso prima di usare il Companion. »Reload the page: «Prima di iniziare» comes back.
Tick the box and tap Continua.
It says my access was revoked
« Il tuo accesso è stato revocato. »Write to us. It's almost always our mistake and we'll put it right.
It says the service isn't responding
« Il servizio non risponde in questo momento. / Il problema è dalla nostra parte. »Try again in a few minutes.
What you wrote stays in the box — no need to retype it.
It won't let me send
« Serve almeno una parola per continuare. »The box was empty. Write something, however little: "I can't do this" is plenty.
It says my message is too long
The limit is 2000 characters. Send it in two goes.
It works better anyway: the Companion does well with short input.
Text too small, or the light hurts
At the end of the menu there's the light / dark switch.
To enlarge, use browser zoom or your phone's settings: the app follows both.
I lost my code
Write to us and we'll issue a new one.
We can't recover the old one: our database keeps only an encrypted fingerprint.
Using your own API key
This is only for developers who already have an Anthropic or OpenAI account. If you do not know what an API key is, skip this section: you do not need it, and you are not weighing on anyone — one answer costs less than half a cent.
-
Create the key on your own account
On console.anthropic.com (or platform.openai.com), in the API keys section, create a new one.
Copy it straight away: they also show it only once.
-
Paste it into NeuroDesk
On the Companion page, under the box where you write, open Advanced options. Pick the right provider in the menu and paste the key.
From then on you pay for your own conversations, on your own account.
-
You can go back whenever you want
In the same panel: Go back to the shared credit.
If you do not use it elsewhere, remember to revoke the key on your own account too.
If something does not work
"The API key you gave us was not accepted"
The provider refused it. In order, the most common causes:
1. You did not copy all of it. They are long and easy to cut short. Copy the whole thing again.
2. Wrong provider in the menu. An Anthropic key with "OpenAI" selected gets refused, and the other way round.
3. No credit left on your account. Check the balance where you created it.
4. Key revoked or expired. Create a new one and paste it again.
In all these cases we do not use NeuroDesk's credit in your place: we stop and tell you, so you can fix it yourself.
"The key looks too short"
You only pasted part of it. Go back where you created it and copy the whole thing — usually a mouse selection that stopped early.
If you cannot see it any more, create a new one: the provider will not show it to you again either.
I saved it but nothing changed
Wait a minute and try again: the service re-checks at most once a minute, so the first message after saving may still come out of the shared credit.
Who can see my key?
Nobody. It is encrypted with the same system we use for the conversations, and is not visible to anyone afterwards — not even to whoever runs NeuroDesk, who only sees that there is one, and for which provider.
It appears in no log and never travels back to the browser.
Can I set a spending cap?
Not from here, but from your own account yes — and it is the right thing to do. Both Anthropic and OpenAI let you set a monthly limit: with that in place, the risk is closed at the source.
I want to remove it but I cannot sign in
Write to us: we can remove the key from your access too. We cannot read it, but we can delete it.
If you are in a hurry, the fastest route is revoking it on your own account: from that moment it stops working, wherever it is.
Reporting a problem
A few lines will do. Include these four things and it gets much easier for us.
- What you were doing — which button you tapped.
- What you saw — the exact message, or "blank page".
- On what — phone or computer, and which browser.
- Roughly when — the day and time are enough.
No need to send the contents of your conversation: we don't need it to fix a defect. If you'd rather tell us what you thought of it, there's Feedback inside the app.
